We are bombarded with ads promoting this and that diet, food or drink. We know there are millions of people, many in Western countries, who are overweight, even obese. A large percentage of these people are elderly which is doubly scary because the cost of caring for the aged can be expensive at best. When you add the problems caused by being overweight, the health budget cops a serious whack.
