High intensity training – or high intensity interval training – is where you carry out an exercise in a fairly intense way – probably between 80% and 90% of your maximum possible effort – for a very short period of time. This, typically, is for just fifteen or twenty seconds. After this time, you’ll be really puffed out and you just have to rest. It will take you a minute or so to get your breath back.

In this case, the person interval training was said to have improved their fitness level by 50%. This included a very healthy body fat reduction of a fifth (interval training converts fat to muscle) and a weight loss of a stone (muscle is lighter than fat).
Pretty stunning results I think you’ll agree.
At the end the interval trainer says:
“I feel great after the five weeks – I really do: I don’t want it to stop. As far as the training goes, it’s hard – but it’s not as hard as [the aerobic exercise the other person did]. If you asked me to do four minutes of hard work or twenty minutes of moderate work – it’s four minutes of hard work every time.”

Weight-bearing exercise

Doing regular weight-bearing exercise is essential to stay healthy.

As the body ages, the muscles and bones tend to become weaker and more liable to disease. Weight bearing exercise will help avoid or delay such both problems.

As we age our bones get less dense and more brittle. This makes them more liable to fracture or to develop arthritis and rheumatism.

Weight-bearing exercises make our muscles and tendons stronger, and this strength is transferred to the bones which they are attached to. The bones becomes more resistant to disease and less liable to fracture.
